Application Details
The Harbortown Cultural District is requesting applications from local creatives and cultural organizations for Summer Projects in the District presented between July 1 - September 30, 2026.
Artists in the city and beyond are invited to propose events, public art displays, and community programs that celebrate the culture of Gloucester. The Harbortown Cultural District has set aside $4,000 to fund these cultural programs within the walkable downtown district during the event. Applications opened on June 23 and are rolling through September 30 or until all the funds are distributed.
The Harbortown Cultural District is funded by the Mass Cultural Council (MCC) and the City of Gloucester.
Details:

Funds must be used to directly support the creation of artwork. Eligible expenses include: artist time, supplies / materials, partners / collaborators, venue, etc. Ineligible funds include: food, advertising, transport, etc.

Projects must be shared in some way with the public in the cultural district. This could be through an event, an outdoor installation, or another creative form of engagement.

Preference will be given to projects that emphasize public accessibility to arts and culture and are free or low-cost for the public to engage with.

Projects must be located in the Harbortown Cultural District. They do not have to be located at any specific cultural organization. To see the outlines of the district, view the map here.

Applicants in all media will be considered

Projects will be funded for between $500 - $1,000. No matching funds are required.

Preference will be given to applicants with a connection to Gloucester

Projects will be evaluated based on connection to Gloucester, feasibility, originality, and amplification of the Harbortown Cultural District.

Project funds will be distributed after the completion of the project and can take 1-2 months to be processed.

Applicants must be 18 years or older and residents of the US.
